HOMESTEAD GARDENING IN HOMER AND ALASKA, WITH SHAWN JACKINSKY
$30 per person/$25 per Pratt Museum Member – Saturday, July 20 from 1-3pm
In conjunction with the Peony Festival, we are responding to a common question: Why aren’t there peonies at the Pratt Museum? We will explore the history of homestead gardens in the Homer area and throughout Alaska, from the beginning of the Sitka Experimental Station to the diverse, wonderfully designed gardens of the Homer area today. The climate in Homer offers many outstanding options for ornamental flowers! Come learn more about what types of ornamentals the Homesteaders incorporated in the past, what is being grown today, and pick up some tips for easier management of plants in your home garden.
This workshop is outdoors and designed for adults, teens are welcome too! Please come prepared for any weather. Please remember to print the waiver/release form and bring a completed copy to the workshop (we will have additional copies available on the day of the event).
Online registration is required for this event.
