We Need Your Help!
Did you know that The Homer Society of Natural History, Inc. is embarking on a vigorous campaign to invest in building upgrades to make the Pratt Museum safe, functional, and sustainable?
The Roof System Replacement Project encompasses the removal and replacement of the 9,143 square-foot roof atop the facility that the Museum occupies. While recent renovations focused on other critical upgrades including facility ADA compliance and collection stewardship, the replacement of the roof system, once again, was not addressed. To sustain the Museum’s commitment to the community, the roof system replacement project can no longer be kicked down the road. Each gallery contains multiple water-collection buckets and at times water drips and splashes on the exhibits and display cases. Leaks also occur over the new elevator and in office spaces equipped with computers and electronics. The routine maintenance of the roof during the winter is a health and safety issue given that the roof needs to be hand-shoveled every time it snows.
Here’s where you come in. Show your support for the Pratt Museum Roof System Replacement Project by writing a letter to Homer Mayor Ken Castner and the Homer City Council endorsing our Capital Improvement Plan nomination. We have included some tips below that may be helpful when preparing your letter of support. You may use the provided letter template (included below) or draft your own. Please contact us at communications@prattmuseum.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Please submit completed letters by Friday, August 23rd to Homer Mayor Ken Castner and/or Homer City Council.
Executive Director Patty Relay will present our case during a City of Homer Capital Improvement Project Work Session on Monday, August 26 at 4pm. The more Pratt Supporters the better! This work session is open to the public and will take place from 4-5pm at Homer City Council Chambers.
